GMP Giving Back Fund

Manchester Young Lives would like to acknowledge the brilliant efforts made by our young volunteers, along with the members of our Play & Youth staff, who have spent the last two Saturdays pitching for GMP Giving Back funding.

The Greater Manchester Police have been awarding Giving Back funding to organisations across Manchester who are committed to tackling anti-social behaviour. The funding comes from their Asset Recovery Incentivisation Scheme (ARIS) which uses the money they’ve taken from criminals (or that they have had to pay back once they’ve been convicted of doing something illegal) to help communities in Greater Manchester.

MYL entered two bids with the hope that it would enable our young people to lead, and take part in, social action projects. The funding raised will be used to purchase resources, and deliver activities, with the intention of targeting and reducing anti-social behaviour in the Hulme and Wythenshawe/Woodhouse Park areas.

On Saturday 5th May, Tammin, Julian, Kai and Charlotte delivered a their pitch to GMP Wythenshawe. They spoke about the work that MYL does to reduce anti-social behaviour in the Wythenshawe and Woodhouse Park area, and the social action that our Play & Youth provision would like to deliver in the future. Our staff and young people were thrilled to be awarded £2000 by GMP Wythenshawe, which will be spent on resources for the Addy Young People’s centre, and to provide more activities such as Football coach sessions.

Then, on the following Saturday, Amin, Damarius and Nozir visited St Philip’s Primary School to deliver their pitch to GMP Hulme, with the hope of raising money for additional resources and activities, to be spent on our Play & Youth provision at Procter’s Young People’s Centre. Again, because of the hard work and enthusiasm displayed by the staff and young people,  MYL was awarded £3000 to tackle anti-social behaviour in the Hulme area.

MYL would like to extend a special thank you to all who were involved, including those who attended the events to support our pitches, and those in both audiences that voted for the organisation.

Lastly (but by no means least) we would like to thank GMP Giving Back. We applaud this excellent initiative, and can’t wait to hear about the great social action work that will be delivered with the funds that were raised. Let’s tackle anti-social behaviour together!
