Longsight Youth Education Project
Based at Longsight Adventure Playground, Longsight YEP offers
full time complementary education to 36 young people whose
personal and social circumstances are barriers to regular
school attendance. Schools, the Education Welfare Service
and other agencies refer these young people and the project
is currently funded by local secondary schools.
The project aims to:
- Offer educational provision with opportunities for accreditation
to young people not attending secondary school.
- Identify, address and resolve issues, which result in
individual non-attendance, such as behaviour problems,
bullying, learning difficulties, caring responsibilities
or poor relationships with teachers.
- Develop individual routes back into school, training,
further education or employment.
The core work of project lies in building trusting and respectful
relationships with young people, offering a curriculum that
will re-engage their interest in learning and working in
partnership with schools to achieve reintegration to mainstream
education. The programme covers GCSE English, Maths, Art & PE
alongside AQA accredited Music, Interior Design and IT as
well as outdoor and indoor leisure activities. Projects work
closely with the Connexions service to develop individual
routes to employment, training or further education.
